Saturday Night Live actor Alec Baldwin took his satirization of President Trump to a new level as he showed up in Trump’s place at the G20 summit. We know it was Baldwin because no American President could be this stupid. The problem with Baldwin’s performance was that he took his satire a little bit too far and made it totally unbelievable.
The BaldwinTrump was asked to comment on statements by Putin that Western-style liberalism is obsolete. Of course “Western-style liberalism” is a euphemism (generally used by conservatives) for democracy and the protection of individual freedom.
But BaldwinTrump played like Trump doesn’t know that. You could see the actor pretending the Trump hamster wheel was turning as he recognizes the words “Western” and “liberalism.” So naturally he thinks this is about liberal states in the Western United States and their supposed failings. With a happily grinning Putin sitting next to him, BaldwinTrump blundered into agreeing with him (sort of) that Western-style liberalism is obsolete.
“He [Putin] sees what’s going on, I guess, if you look at what’s happening in Los Angeles, where it’s so sad to look, and what’s happening in San Francisco and a couple of other cities, which are run by an extraordinary group of liberal people. I don’t know what they’re thinking, but he does see things that are happening in the United States that would probably preclude him from saying how wonderful it is.”
A quick photographer recorded Angela Merkel’s response.
Baldwin would continue the stupid act. BaldwinTrump was later asked about Kamala Harris’ comments during the Democratic debate about her experience with school segregation busing. Baldwin beautifully played the “very stable genius” as apparently believing “busing,” is really just about how kids get to school, as opposed to say the limousining the real Trump would be used to.
“Well, that’s something that they’ve done for a long period of time. You know, there aren’t that many ways you’re going to get people to schools. So this is something that’s been done. In some cases, it’s been done with a hammer instead of a velvet glove. And, you know, that’s part of it.. But this has been certainly a thing that’s been used over the — I think if Vice President Biden had answered the question somewhat differently, it would have been a different result. Because they really did hit him hard on that one. But it is certainly a primary method of getting people to schools.”
Trump then assured the reporter that he will be unveiling a policy on busing soon saying “It relates to everything we’re doing. And you’ll be hearing about it over the next couple of months.”
You can’t make this up. It’s like Saturday Night Live satire is real.
