I would like all of you to take a good, long look at this graph. Really study it, absorb it, let it sink in.
Are you seeing this? The white Evangelicals are now down to FIFTEEN PERCENT of the population, but they still make up TWENTY-SIX PERCENT OF THE VOTERS. They show up. They will show up in 2020. In 2016, 81% voted for Trump. REPEAT: 15% of the population casts 26% of the vote, and they vote overwhelmingly Republican.
NOW do you see?
NOW do you know why I am so fiercely committed to encouraging people to register to vote?
NOW do you see why I am fanatical in my GOTV efforts?
The 2020 election is our last chance to save America.
If we don’t win, a fascist/authoritarian/Dominionist state will be firmly established, impossible to remove short of a revolution.
Our ideological enemies WILL vote. We must overwhelm them. We must add AT LEAST 20,000,000 votes to the Democratic presidential vote total. Moreover, we must add them in our prime target states:
PENNSYLVANIA
OHIO
MICHIGAN
WISCONSIN
IOWA
NORTH CAROLINA
FLORIDA
GEORGIA
TEXAS
ARIZONA.
And we must hold on to ALL the Clinton 2016 states. ALL of them.
I know I’m a broken record about this stuff. But g-d damn it, GOTV is how our enemies are winning. This has to change.
AGAIN: I have a lot of ideas. Please look at them. Please spread them around. Don’t tell me that I’m being premature, that it’s still a long way off. It isn’t. We must kick our efforts into high gear now. Here are some of my (and others’) ideas:
A. ID REQUIREMENTS FOR EVERY STATE, HOW TO OBTAIN VOTER IDs
1. Information from The National Conference of State Legislatures, located here. This is an excellent source.
2. Information from Ballotpedia, here. This has a wealth of detail.
3. VoteRiders will help people obtain voter IDs. Take a look here.
4. From awesome Kossack pr0gressivist, this link here.
B. FIGHTING REPUBLICAN VOTER SUPPRESSION TACTICS
1. This was the ACLU’s page from 2016, but it contains many updates. You can find it here.
2. The League of Women Voters will help you out, right here.
3. Let America vote is pitching in as well, right here.
C. REGISTERING TO VOTE
1. State voting requirements can be found at U.S. Vote Foundation, located here.
2. You can register people to vote at Vote.Org, located right here.
3. You can not only register to vote at this site, you can check your current eligibility, right here.
D. WORKING WITH DEMOCRATIC GROUPS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL
1. Act Local put this guide out last year. It has plenty of good information, and I’m sure they’re already cranking up for 2020. Take a look here.
2. You want to be part of a fighting organization? Check out Indivisible, right here.
3. Check out Wave 2020, right here. Their list of local organizations is here.
4. Take a look at SwingLeft, right here.
TAKE A LOOK AT THIS AS WELL:
Consider this data from Myrna Pérez of New York University’s Brennan Center for Justice: “Between 2014 and 2016, states removed almost 16 million voters from the rolls. That’s almost 4 million more than between 2006 and 2008.” And it should be obvious that that is a rate that outstrips the growth rate of total registered voters and the growth rate of total population.”
She acknowledged the responsibility of election administrators to keep voting rolls clear of the dead and geographically departed. But she said “what is especially concerning to the Brennan Center” is jurisdictions now excluded from “federal pre-clearance under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act had purge rates that were significantly higher” than other jurisdictions, leaving 2 million fewer citizens eligible to vote.
Guess who runs the states where restrictions are the worst?
VALUABLE INFO FROM KOSSACK Emessbe:
Except for those from very voter-friendly states (e.g. California), US citizens who live overseas (both military and civilians) need to register to vote in every year in which they want to vote. So, overseas citizens who wish to vote in 2019 should register right away. (Those wishing to vote in 2020 should register as soon as they sober up on New Year’s Day.) there are 6-8 million non-military citizens abroad, so their votes could make a big difference.
Registration and ballot request are easy. You can use Democrats Abroad’s site, but two excellent nonpartisan sites are available:
Start at the homepage and follow the instructions. The site will generate a PDF, filled in according to your state’s laws, that you print, sign and send to your local election official (LEO). Keep the file. It’s a good idea to check your status with your LEO a few weeks after you send the form in. Alternatively, the LEO May contact you to confirm you are registered or tell you about any problem. (Overseas voters can solve almost any such problems if they have enough time, another reason to register early.) You can probably also register at the US consulate/embassy in the country where you live, but your computer is likely to be closer, and available 24/7.
if you are military, your state will probably send you a full ballot (local, state and federal) if state law permits. If you are an overseas civilian, you need to indicate on the registration form whether (1) you intend to return to the US or (2) your return is uncertain. For (1) you get a full ballot and for (2) you get a federal ballot only. (US citizens born abroad can vote in most states.)
As soon as you receive your ballot, vote and return it immediately. The law says that states must send ballots to overseas voters 45 days before Election Day, as there are deadlines for returning them. If your ballot has not reached you one month before Election Day, go back to:
and create a Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot (FWAB). Vote and return the FWAB immediately. If your proper ballot arrives after you have sent off the FWAB, vote and return it, too, and let the LEO decide which to count.
For questions and further information, you can contact your LEO, the US consulate/embassy in the country where you live, or
They offer FAQ and the Foundation at least has an excellent help desk.
Always vote. No matter how far you live from the US or how long you’ve been gone, your country needs your voice.
