Where to start? I guess at the mouth-frothing crazy part.
In a story about Republicans’ non-response to the fact that their president is a raging racist, VICE News quoted one such Republican as saying …
Oh, hell, you just have to read this for yourself:
Most rank-and-file Republicans showed little interest in taking on Trump, accusing “The Squad” — freshman congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley — of being anti-Semitic as justification for his remarks or shrugging them off as no big deal.
“You know, they talk about people of color. I'm a person of color. I'm white. I'm an Anglo Saxon. People say things all the time, but I don't get offended,” Pennsylvania GOP Rep. Mike Kelly told VICE News before the blowup over Pelosi’s comments. “‘With a name like Mike Kelly you can’t be from any place else but Ireland.’”
So what’s next? If the long-rumored n-word video comes out, will congressional Republicans accuse Democrats of needlessly politicizing Trump’s visceral hatred of black people? What if Trump shows up at a cross-burning in a white hood? “Oh, those elitist limo-riding, latte-drinking liberals think you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day, huh? We have bigger issues to worry about. And why do they hate the cross! So out of touch with heartland values.”
Right now there are around 250 mostly snow-white pretzels in Congress lamely trying to defend the indefensible, and some are more salty than others.
But this is some really extreme gaslighting, folks. Maybe we should shut down the government until Republicans can agree to at least pretend to be serious.
