Doesn’t look like there is a post for this AM so here is a cabinet project I did at Pro Fab last year. The tubing benders have lots of heavy dies & the owner likes putting them away. So Alex around the corner from Pro Fab formed these 2 cabinets up & I figured out how to assemble them. This is the first time I built something like this. You can also see the ribs Alex made for the cabinets !
Heavy Duty. the drawers are formed out of ¼ mild steel plate. the Cabinet is .065 mild steel. you can see the ribs Alex made for these cabinets here also. Found some nice drawer slides also. Brandon Tig wilded the cabinets together.
It took me several weeks to figure out how to hang the doors on these.
You can see the welds in this picture that hold the hinge to the door. For the cabinet side I put a strip of 1/8” strap in the cabinet that got welded like the hinge is. that way I could drill & tap to attach the doors. It’s hard to explain, but to get the doors lined up was a pain to do. I did get it done & for the first time doing this it turned out great.
So then they went to get painted
In this picture you can see the brackets that were made to attach the slide rails to the cabinet. again I used ¼ mild steel! Heavy Duty. The cabinets to the right had to be rebuilt. The drawers were ripping away from the cabinet because of the weight of the tool dies. So I spent the time to make the new cabinets heavy duty.
this shelf holds spindles with 4 dies machined into them for different radius.
they weigh about 250# each.
With this cabinet you can see all the other store bought cabinets that are full of dies to form the tubing. the start at 1 1/2” & go up to 4”. all with several different radius. Lots of money in these dies ! There is 3 different machines that they use to bend the tubing. There is an over head crane to lift this stuff. I put that in back in 2004. You can see 3 of the post in the picture above.
