I’m proud share with everyone my People Focused, Progressive Congressional Platform that is highlighted by my commitment to:
✔️Medicare for All — Providing healthcare for every American as a right
✔️Strong support for increasing the minimum wage to $15/hr.
✔️Ending the gender wage gap
✔️Technology, infrastructure and sustainable local jobs through the Green New Deal
✔️Tuition free college
✔️Social, Civic and Economic Justice reform that includes ending cash bail and marijuana convictions.
✔️Fighting against civil, economic and environmental policies that are directly attacking minority communities and the working class.
✔️Advocating on behalf of the people people and not corporations and lobbyists.
A recent press release about my platform read:
“My strong, decisive platform embodies who I am as a passionate leader,” said Owens, who served 8 years in the Marines Corp on active and reserve duty. “I am dedicated to this community, and I pledge to focus on improving the lives of every citizen and those who seek to be citizens, and create a better future for our next generation.”
Owens has been critical about the representation the 13th district has received, which spans across southwest Atlanta from Stockbridge to Powder Springs. With nearly 13% of its residents living below the poverty line, Owens vows to stop legislation drafted by corporations and lobbyists that directly attacks the working class.
“I am dedicated to the prosperity of all Americans. I want to ensure that every person in my district, in the state of Georgia and across the country has comprehensive healthcare guaranteed as a right,” said Owens, who is a Mableton resident living inside the district, unlike the incumbent, Rep. David Scott. “My progressive platform is built on the American promise that any adult who works a full time job should not live in poverty.”
Owens has already built massive grassroots support by plugging in locally as a young leader. In 2013, he launched the South Cobb Voter Empowerment Project, whose mission is to inform and empower people in local communities. Since 2016, Owens has served as Chair of the Cobb County Democratic Party. During his tenure, it has grown to become the largest county party in the state of Georgia. At the same time, he has been one of the most active grassroots organizers in the state building many alliances across many diverse groups. Owens is also creator of the #FlipThe6th movement from the 2017 special election in which, then candidate, Jon Ossoff lost in a close race in Georgia’s 6th. In 2018, he led the same volunteer task force in assisting Congresswoman Lucy McBath in successfully flipping the former GOP-held seat.
“I want our country to be a place where every child has the best education possible, benefiting from a robust, equal and forward-thinking global economy, while living on a planet that is no longer ravaged by constant war, and still has clean air to breath and water to drink,” Owens said.”
This campaign is about reclaiming our district, putting people first and helping to turn GA blue by providing true Democratic leadership.
