Sorry for the suddenness and brevity, but….
A tornado has touched down today on Cape Cod. Yes, that’s a tornado. On Cape Cod.
At 1202 PM EDT, a confirmed tornado was located over Yarmouth, or 8 miles east of Barnstable, moving northeast at 35 mph.
90 MPH wind gust reported at Kalmus Beach in Hyannis.
Eversource reports 3,500 customers without power in Mashpee, 1,200 in Yarmouth
Not to be confused with YESTERDAY’S tornado warning, there was another one today. But this one was confirmed to have touched down.
There was a small tornado touchdown last year on the Cape, which had been the “first in many decades.”

This storm also likely produced a waterspout south of Rhode Island:

“We’ve seen some spin and rotation to the east of Block Island,” 7Weather meteorologist Chris Lambert said. “The cell likely has produced a waterspout south of Rhode Island.”
Don’t worry, tho! This is all totally normal. There’s no global warming.
