Bijan Kian (whose name you may also see written as Rafiekian) has been convicted of acting as an illegal lobbyist on behalf of Turkey in that country’s efforts to extradite Fethullah Gulen. He was engaged in this endeavor alongside already-convicted former national security adviser Michael Flynn, while working under the auspices of the Flynn Intel Group. Among other things, this led to an anti-Gulen op-ed, published in The Hill, and ostensibly written by Michael Flynn... but actually largely authored by Kian’s Turkish handlers.
Kian entered American politics when Bush (43) appointed him to the Board of Directors of the frequently-controversial Export—Import Bank. He also served as Trump adviser and member of the Trump transition team, specifically on the topic of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Because of course he did.
For those who have been following this case at least indirectly, there was no direct mention of the purported attempted kidnapping plot, and no related charges were considered against Kian.
