We can talk frankly here, right? OK good. I know what day today is. It’s Day One of the Second Debate Wars. And I know that you’re watching. How do I know? Because I am too. And if you’re reading the site right now, or even later tonight, you’re mostly here for the debate coverage. So here I am giving you the go-ahead admit you’re here either as a drive-by to check the mojo and comments, OR as a refuge from the spectacle on stage. Grab a beverage (if you haven’t already gotten tipsy playing Debate Bingo) and hop below the story break for a bit of relaxation…
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
Thanks to a wonderful convergence of open schedules, yesterday I was able to spend part of yesterday with three close friends at Wingaersheek Beach. While I live in Eastern Massachusetts close enough that from the hills in my town I can see the ocean, I don’t get to the beach that often. Once in June up in Maine, where it’s usually so cold I don’t get more than my feet wet, and if I’m lucky another time or two each summer. Work, vacation, and life schedules let us head up early Monday morning, and while I couldn’t spend the entire day I was able to be there until about 1:30.
We each brought a small cooler with snacks and seltzer, beach chairs, and we had four hours to catch up on each others’ lives, laugh, and play “which of these million dollar homes surrounding this beach would YOU want to live in if money were no object?”
I needed the relaxation and the connection to friends. There’s something about the beach that brings out the child in us… hot sand under our feet and sprinkled on our food because it’s unavoidable, laughing faces as everyone uses their own method to get into the refreshingly cool water. Lots of sunscreen and STILL patches where we missed. Little kids digging holes and building castles.
Have you been to a beach lately? Doesn’t matter if it’s ocean, river or lakefront! Come share as you splash in the calm water of Top Comments while the waves crash and roil out in the debate diaries! We’ve got Top Comments Mojo and Pictures courtesy of BeninSC, our formatting lifeguard for tonight!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
Note: Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? Contact brillig.
From elenacarlena:
I'd like to submit this comment from wisqerbisqit, in Laura Clawson's diary about Republican retirements. wisqerbisqit explains how - although Rep retirements are good for us - it's the coward's way out. (Ed. note: Big surprise!)

Is this comment by niftywriter, with a copy of a tweet showing the border wall seesaws installed to show how much better our species can be when we want to be.

Is this light-hearted comment by Remembering Jello, in response to a comment with a not-so-veiled insult.
