Break out your tiniest violin for everyone's least favorite "disappointed" member of Congress, Maine's Susan Collins! The Republican senator is just so upset about the "constant chaos" created by the president of her party, with whom she is "working very closely," but who nonetheless is stealing her thunder.
"It's frustrating because we're doing a lot of work on lowering health costs. And I did a major speech on the Senate floor and it gets no coverage. Instead what I'm asked about is the latest tweet, which I obviously I don't agree with," Collins said of Trump's attacks on [Maryland Democratic Rep. Elijah] Cummings. "We're constantly being diverted from policy and issues that really affect the lives of the American people."
She gave a major speech! And she got no coverage! Attention must be paid!
It's hard to imagine a more reprehensible response to Trump's latest racist assault. How self-absorbed do you have to be to not recognize that Trump's racism is driving policies that really do affect the lives of Americans and would-be Americans. This is egregious, even for her.
(Not that that lets this effin' profile in courage off the hook: one Willard "Mitt" Romney, who gravely vows that if Trump says "things I thought were highly divisive, racist, misogynistic, anti-immigrant I would speak out. And I've done that." He tells Politico, "If necessary, I’ll do that in the future. I hope it’s not necessary. […] I don’t respond to all of the things that come forward that in many cases are inappropriate. I just don’t think it’s productive to do a daily commentary on what the president’s doing." Yeah, right. When he was asked about Trump's attacks on Cummings, the most he could muster was calling it the "latest act of political theater.")
Anyhow, these two are going to be home for the next nearly six weeks. Maybe they'll even be out in public talking to their constituents, from whom, just maybe, they could get some lessons on doing their jobs and not being such assholes.
Let's keep building that fund to take back the Senate. Please give $1 to help Democrats in each of these crucial Senate races, but especially the one in Maine!
