Controversial thought for the day #1:
Statistics get bent for every political group that wants to advocate their cause. It is true that black people are disproportionately likely to get stopped by police and equally, harmed or killed by them, However, despite being around 14% of the overall population, did you know:
Roughly 50% of accused murderers are black people
Roughly 50% of grievous assaulters are black people
When you are a cop, encountering this all the time can color (pun intended) your view of the area you patrol and the people in it.
Here is another one:
We talked about disproportionality above, but did you know that if you are stopped by police you are about 14 times more likely to be shot if you are a man than if you are a woman being stopped! I don't hear "male lives matter" being chanted even though the disproportionality is much, much worse. Why? You'll all just saying in your head "well men are more likely to be violent"... which may be true, but you would never accept such generalization if the statistics were about black people.
Poor analysis of data, or using only a part of the statistics available as above, makes solving the problems impossible as you are avoiding the big picture.
Controversial thought for the day #2:
With the weaponization of the phrase "white privilege" I believe we have institutionalized another racist slur, but it is OK to say it as it is coming from minority groups. I say, discrimination is discrimination and prejudice is prejudice no matter who it is coming from and who it is to. As you bandy phrases like this around you repeat the phrases used constantly to demonize a group by race or gender over the centuries. The push back to this blind reverse racism is what helped Trump get in.
Finally, I firmly believe that if you constantly preach to people that you will never succeed because society is stacked against you for race, gender or sexuality or anything you drive the ambition out of the people you are preaching to and make it self fulfilling, which might explain why black immigrants do better than native black folks in general, maybe?
(all stats come from the FBI and have been rounded or manipulated by me - hopefully not changing the point - and yes, you can argue about the cause, collection and meaning of the stats all day but rat-holing never solves anything)
Time to fling the mud... but please use facts not emotions. DYOR
