Why is this so hard? I have read many “weak sauce” answers as everyone has an opinion. Let me rephrase the problem and maybe the answer will be more obvious:
You are working on an important deal for your company and are traveling for a big working conference. When you arrive, the host company says: welcome to all of you, except you because you are black/hispanic/jewish/female. How does your team respond:
(a) tell your colleague (with the “wrong” attributes) to wait in the car and you will let them know what happened
(b) tell the other company that you are disappointed and this snub may have future consequences (and then send your colleague to wait in the car)
(c) refuse to go in unless all of your team is allowed and treated with respect
Note the statement issued by Representative Ilhan Omar:
She is not being permitted to do her job. Why are her colleagues all picking choice (b)?
Will anyone in Congress pick choice (c)? It is easy to be a good person — say it with me: I will not go to Israel until my colleague is allowed to go and is treated with the respect owed to an elected leader of the United States of America.
I’m waiting…..
(Oh good grief — why do I even bother)
Flame away and ban me — you all know how
