Here is the response from the Greenland Ministry of Foreign Affairs to trump’s bizarre desire to buy Greenland.
The Danes have some choice words for trump.
Perhaps this is a good time to educate the American public about Greenland.
- Greenland is an autonomous country of the Kingdom of Denmark.
- At 2.2 million square km, Greenland is the world's largest island. By comparison, the contiguous U.S. is 7.6 million sq. km in size; Alaska is 1.7 sq. km.
- Three-quarters of Greenland is covered by the only permanent ice sheet outside Antarctica.
- It has a population of about 56,480 (2013).
- The majority of its residents (~88%) are Inuit, whose ancestors began migrating from the Canadian mainland in the 13th century, gradually settling across the island. Not white Caucasians.
- About a third of the population live in Nuuk, the capital and largest city.
- In 1979, Denmark granted home rule to Greenland, and in 2008, Greenlanders voted in favor of the Self-Government Act, which transferred more power from the Danish government to the local Greenlandic government
- The Greenlandic economy is highly dependent on fishing. Greenland is abundant in minerals.
- And they have free (publicly financed) education and healthcare. There are no private healthcare services.
Why is icy Greenland named Greenland while green Iceland named Iceland? Here is one explanation -
Greenlanders understand Climate Change.
Climate change is very visible in Greenland —
Greenland is burning and melting. If the entire 2,850,000 cubic km of ice covering Greenland were to melt, it would lead to a global sea level rise of 7.2 m — en.wikipedia.org/...
And dumping water into the oceans, raising sea levels -
Now why Greenlanders would want to join trump’s USA is beyond anyone’s comprehension. But we can certainly learn a few lessons from them. Let’s educate the population about the world beyond USA, lets educate them about Climate Change and let’s highlight the corruption, desperation and madness of trump and the GOP.
