In 2002, Professor Elizabeth Warren agreed to meet with a former Harvard student who was considering running in the Illinois Democratic primary for United States Senate. She told this “enlightening” story in 2011, around the time she’d decided to run for the Senate herself. You just have to hear it in her own words.
Of course, Barack Obama not only won that Senate seat, he became president. And one of his acts as president was to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, naming none other than Professor Warren to lead the agency to reel in Wall Street and protect everyday Americans from predatory lenders.
She followed him into the U.S. Senate, perhaps she’ll follow him into the White House too.
In the meantime, here’s President Barack Obama introducing Elizabeth Warren as his nominee for the Director of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau!
