Good morning, Newdists!
Happy Caturday!
Diary Bird — Torrent Duck — Merganetta armata
The monotypic Torrent Duck is an Andean endemic and a specialist of cold fast-flowing mountain streams, a raucous and fairly unproductive environment to which only three other species of duck in the world that have been able to adapt. The Torrent Duck is highly sexually dimorphic. In contrast to most other ducks, the female is just as colorful as the male, but with an entirely different color scheme. Further, males show considerable geographic variation in head patterning and extend of black in the underparts whereas the female’s plumage remains the same throughout the range. Virtually sedentary, the Torrent Duck remains close to its mate throughout its reproductive life, but young birds will range widely before establishing a territory. LINK

Cats in Kimonos
Sometimes when I’m looking for inspiration to write the Caturday morning NDC diary, I’m online on Friday evenings, simply wandering around Google catching up with the news and seeing if there’s anything that I can find to produce a diary. While looking I encountered Cats in Kimonos.
I see images of cats in clothes all the time, as I look for cat images for my PWB diaries. And I have a vague recollection of seeing a cat or two in kimono robes. Apparently, a few years ago, cats in kimonos was a thing.
Yes. Really!
And it was a trend which began in Japan, where the kimono is now generally only worn on special occasions. But then again, perhaps it’s an idea which began a long time ago with ukiyo-e process/style of Kuniyoshi Utagawa, who may very well have been obsessed with cats.
Kimonos and cats are two things that are definitely popular in Japan, so it was inevitable that they'd eventually collide to form one super-kawaii perfect storm – cats IN kimonos. LINK
Apparently, kimonos for cats are available on Amazon.
So, onward!
