As reported in the Independent, Bernie Sanders has stepped up his attacks on Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. That isn't wise. Sounds like 2016 all over again….which brings to mind:
Oldies rock! This week has seen a re-mix [that means new recordings] of some of top hits from 2016 by the cleanest group in pop, Bernie and the Puretones. Get them all! “Goldwater Girl! “ “Bagmen in the Hamptons”! “Big Oil!” “Dirty Work (DCCC Blues)”! Hear Jim Weaver growl out “The Kids are Alright” (the lyrics claim Sanders has more diverse support); Susan Sarandon sings lead on “Goldwater Girls”, rapping on Warren’s former party affiliation (as if that she were going to have a relapse). Bernie himself takes the lead on “Bagmen in the Hamptons (I Dont Go There), throwing shade on Kamala Harris. Lead guitar David Sirota rips off hot solos on Beto’s alleged petro money (“Big Oil”) and Kamala’s alleged bank buddies ( “Bailout Blues”.)
Look, primaries are for airing issues, but raising the fact that Elizabeth Warren grew up a Republican is not an issue. It’s an insinuation, at lest of being a come lately, possibily of not being true to the cause. Taking issue with Kamala Harris attending a fundraiser with billionaire donors is not an issue. It insinuates that Harris will sell-out to big money. Harris, who won a huge bank fraud settlement for CA, is hardly a pushover for the FIRE sector. Sirota attacking Beto for accepting campaign contributions from oil execs is not an issue. It insinuates he was in the pocket of big oil, and did so dishonestly, by conflating donations from individuals who worked in petro with corporate PAC money.
I guess team Sanders feels the necessity to do has to since the policy differences between him and his rivals that significant (they were not that significant in 2015). These attacks say more about the junior Senator from Vermont, notably about his willingness to inflict damage to potential nominees that may have an afterlife in the general election. Which brings to mind one single that did not make the reissue: “Burning Down the House”.
Update 1: the satire is based on current press statements from the Sanders campaign. Mildly amused to be accused of serving pie when his team is throwing it. Here is the article: Bernie Sanders has stepped up his attacks on Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. That isn't wise.
Update 2: the point of this exercise is to challenge a fundamental assumption of the Sanders campaign, that he is the One True Scotsman of the progressive persuasion within the Democratic party. He can fairly say he is the lone Democratic Socialist. Saying those referenced in the article are not progressive or are crypto-Republicans goes too far.
Update 3. Humor failed. Oldies radio must not be a thing anymore.
