Doesn’t seem likely that Trump will be Tweeting much about this poll tomorrow morning.
As Fox News is strangely quiet too, we go to Business Insider for the analysis:
In a record high, 51% of those surveyed in the poll said they want the president impeached and removed from office, and 4% want Trump to be impeached but not removed. Meanwhile, 40% said they oppose impeachment all together.
The results indicate a remarkable shift in public opinion over the last several months, as the president continues grappling with an escalating congressional impeachment inquiry looking at whether he used his public office for private gain.
55% of voters disapprove of the way Trump is handling the job, while 43% approve.
47% strongly disapprove, i.e., they hate his guts.
But that 51% number is really something special. Those are the voters who want him impeached and removed from office. Nothing ambiguous about that. For some reason, that doesn’t seem like a sentiment that is likely to change much. Like, you won’t see many people saying “Well, yesterday I thought he should be impeached and removed from office, but today I’m kinda on the fence.”
No. “Impeach and remove him from office” is pretty damn clear.
The opinions of those folks who actually go into the voting booth are also reflected in polls of all American adults overall:
The rising public support for Trump's impeachment was also reflected in a recent Washington Post/Schar School poll, in which a whopping 58% of American adults said they favor House Democrats' impeachment inquiry, and 49% said they want to see Trump removed from office.
And even a significant chunk of Republicans are finally getting tired of this guy’s continual, relentless disgrace to the office.
Since July, Post/ABC News polling has found that support for an impeachment investigation has grown by 21 percentage points among Republicans, 25 percentage points among Democrats, and 20 percentage points among those who identify as independents.
Of course, those numbers will be nothing compared to those we’ll see if and when the economy heads south, from Trump’s trade war with China.
Then things get really ugly.
H/T to TPM for the poll alert. And, now I see that annieli is on this too.
