Whipsaw:
Subject to two difficult situations or opposing pressures at the same time.
Google dictionary.
Whipsaw is coming for Republicans.
Republicans are just beginning to realize they are between a rock and a hard place. They must make a choice:
A. Repudidate Trump; or
B. Give up any hope of winning anything except a blood red state
Do you see Tom Cotton or Josh Hawley or Marco Rubio or Ben Sasse or Nikki Haley having a chance to win the Presidency if they support or vote to acquit Donald Trump as numbers for impeachment and removal rise over 50%? In a Fox poll?
Do Corey Gardner, Susan Collins, or Martha McSally and others have a chance without repudiating Trump?
I’m loathe to cite George Will, but the title of his column yesterday shows the Whipsaw effect in action: No Republican who supports Trump should be re-elected
As I wrote in April, long before Ukraine-gate:
Do you want to defend a vote to acquit someone who paid hush money to a porn star, obstructed justice by lying and bullying? Made the Presidency his personal piggy bank, stole from charities, obstructed justice and everything else in and out of the Mueller Report?
The Virginia Legislative Elections in less than a month are a great opportunity to show how Whipsaw works. VA Republicans are clinging to Trump in House of Delegates and State Senate Elections. Massive Democratic wins against them will put the fear of Whipsaw into Republicans all over the country.
It will be increasingly obvious Trump is:
a millstone, an anvil, a handcuff, a dead weight, a sinking ship, a dog collar, quicksand, concrete shoes, a prior and future restraint.
A great piece by Fergie Reid Jr. lays it out.
A 60 - 40 Democratic House Majority is very possible. A 28 - 12 Democratic Senate Majority is achievable. A very big turnout is absolutely necessary to reach these goals. Election Day is November 5th. The Virginia voter registration deadline is October 15th. Early voting has begun. One vote matters. Ask Shelly Simond (HD 94); in 2017 she lost by 0 votes.
