In an extraordinary letter, the heads of the foreign affairs committees of the European Parliament, the German Bundestag, the French National Assembly, and the UK House of Commons have joined the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives in condemning the Turkish invasion of Syria — and criticizing Donald Trump for his withdrawal of American troops from the region in question.
The letter text is here, on the website of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. An excerpt:
We deeply regret the decision of the President of United States to withdraw American troops from northeastern Syria which marks another landmark in the change of American foreign policy in the Near and Middle East.
Can anyone cite an example where a chair of a US congressional committee has gone this far in trying to sabotage a terrible policy by a sitting US President? I have no idea how he managed to pull this off!
I am proud to have Eliot Engel as my Congressman.
