US Ambassador to the E.U. Gordon Sondland, your memory will be refreshed, had his memory refreshed by hearing reports of what people like Ambassador Taylor had testified and decided it better to amend his testimony and admit there was a direct relationship between support for Ukraine and investigations into Bidens and Crowdstrike. (www.nbcnews.com/...) than to possibly face perjury charges.
“Yeah, well, I kind of did say to Zelensky’s guy it was dirt for aid, but hey, who remembers every convo? It’s not like it was actually the president...” (arist’s rendering, not an actual quote)
One would, indeed, be more likely to remember a call from an actual president, like say, the American president…
WASHINGTON – A new revelation in public testimony from Ambassador Bill Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, was that one of his aides overheard a phone call July 26 between President Donald Trump and Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, in which the president inquired about "the investigations."
Sondland’s memory seems to have some serious flaws. If I had ever found myself in a restaurant in Kiev, listening on an unsecured phone to the president of the United States demanding an investigation into the Bidens, I’d like to think I’d recall that.
Especially when asked under oath about the president and Ukraine and investigations and Bidens.
Once already, presumably on the advice of a well-paid attorney, Gordon Sondland has had to abruptly change his testimony to avoid legal jeopardy. Today, it was clear that even that attempted do-over was deceptive and incomplete.
At this point, it seems to me Sondland is in very hot legal water, right poached, and may have no option but to fully disclose all he knows to the committee. Otherwise, he may end up wearing an “I Paid a Million Bucks to Trump’s Inauguration Fund And All I Got was Ten Years” shirt.
