I think the threats to Ambassador Maria Yovanovitch were much worse than those to her job or her reputation. Though it was covered some within diaries here by annieli and here by New Corpse, I believe it deserves more focused attention.
Ambassador Yovanovitch was called to return to the U.S. in the middle of an event honoring Kateryna Handziuk, an anti-corruption activist who died a few months earlier from an acid attack after 4 months of suffering from the injuries.
Think about that. What would be on your mind that night?
Even Chris Wallace on Fox has to admit that the treatment of Maria Yovanovitch was bad, however, in paraphrasing the call to her from the Secretary General, Wallace added that it was not her “physical security”, that was under threat. Really Chris? She’s told to get on the next plane, she stands up to people who support Russia, but it is not her physical security that is under threat?
To top it off, the pResident’s “perfect” phone call included the line.
“Well, she’s going to go through some things.”
It seems pretty chilling to me and I think Yovanovitch is one of the bravest women in the world.
Thank you, Ambassador Yovanovitch for your service and incredible courage.
