I am thankful that no matter how bad things may seem, how dark things are, that I remember this:
This, too, must pass.
And I am thankful for all of the people fighting to make it so - all of my fellow Gnusies, and everyone out there fighting to make a better world for everyone.
Good morning Gnusies! Since it is the day before Thanksgiving I would like to tell you all about what I am thankful for. Of course there is the usual, we are all fine, I have a wonderful husband, children and grandchildren, I am blessed to have a good job, I have my amazing Lucy and Ella dog people, a roof over our heads and enough food to celebrate the holiday. But, I am also thankful for all of you, this group and this site. As we have all discussed here, most of us were pretty distraught in 2016. You already know that story of my experience so I won’t rehash it, the boat we found ourselves on pretty much has the same story and the same reasons we found ourselves in “the good place”. I am thankful to Goodie for forging through the profound feeling of doom and starting this group. I am thankful I stumbled upon it and found a place to smile again. This group has grown to include so many amazing writers and participants over that time and I am thankful for that. I am also thankful for the other groups I discovered through the comments here, The Village and PWPeeps are among my fav’s. Lifesavers they are. So enjoy however you celebrate tomorrow and know I am thankful for all of you.
Greetings, Gnusies! When Old Hippie Dude returned last week to writing the Good News Roundup on the third Thursday of the month (yay!!!), I happily stepped back from being a regular writer. But I also offered to be an occasional sub for others in the writing pool. I had no idea that I’d be taken up on my offer so soon! Niftywriter is on the road and asked me to cover today, which I’m delighted to do.
Last week and the week before, packed with back-to-back House Intelligence Committee hearings, were exhilarating because of the amount of damning information they revealed about That Thing and his henchweasels (h/t NNNE) and also because it was so heartening to watch the Dems perform so admirably. But I also found those two weeks thoroughly exhausting. So assuming some of you feel the same, I’m offering this eclectic gathering of good news, music, laughs, endearing critters, and pretty photos as a brief antidote to the daily news overload.
✂
Thanks for giving me the chance to sub for you, nifty, and thanks to each and every Gnusie for your smarts, your hearts, and your faithful attendance at our daily Gathering of the Herd.
Jessiestaf — Monday
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Its time for the Good News Monday Roundup, where we take pot shots at the biggest turkey of them all, our most dishonorable so called President. Since Disney + came out two weeks ago, I’ve been rewatching Disney’s Robin Hood, and the story where the main villain is a greedy manchild usurping control of a country for his own greed and enforcing his rule with a band of corrupt cronies seems relevant for some reason.
✂
I know that this stuff is exhausting, I know the GOP is already claiming victory in the whole impeachment thing, but they always do that because lying is the only thing they are good at. But keep strong, one way or another we will win in the end. Check out the GNR Spotify playlist and have a good week.
2thanks — Sunday
Yikes! I have more Good News to add, but I arrived home at 9:30 p.m. last night to a chilly house and a broken furnace. I can fix the furnace problem, but I need a replacement part that is unavailable on a Saturday night. Overnight temperatures expected to be at freezing. Loving neighbors loaned us a couple of electric fans.
Update: I replaced the generic water-level sight glass on my 90-year-old furnace, and we now have heat in our house. I am very thankful that I could buy parts nearby costing only $9 and that I could replace the broken glass tube myself. The 39-year-old fragile tube shattered when outdoor temperatures were above freezing rather than far below freezing. I had the tools and expertise, and I did not have to purchase a new furnace!
More Updates
Canvassing for For Our Future: As you may recall, I took a temporary (9-week) 28-hours-per-week canvassing job with For Our Future, in a project which is focusing on bringing the liar’s voters back to the Democratic fold. I was one of 100 canvassers. The project went very well, we out-performed our goals, and what we learned in Michigan will be shared as For Our Future expands the program to other swing states.
At a personal level, I enjoyed the talking with voters and the walking through a gorgeous Michigan autumn as it turned gently into winter, and I never got cold. Frankly, I was an outstanding canvasser: I didn’t miss a single day of work, on one specific day, I knocked on more doors than any other canvasser in my southeast Michigan region, and I wrote a one-page summary of my stratagem to increase productivity in canvassing. You might have known I would excel, but I did not. My team leader wants me to return in March when they restart the program, and I plan to.
An evening with Rashida Tlaib: Rashida visited our Indivisible group in mid November for a potluck catered by the Yemen Restaurant in Hamtramck. She’s brilliant and funny. My tie-dye scarf pretty much obstructed view of my Daily Kos T-shirt. I don’t have time to go into detail about everything she said, but she did say not to miss Gordon Sondland’s testimony. She was right about that. Rashida also reminded us that she needs us all to keep pushing for what we want.

Please enjoy Bill’s on-point analysis and wit, vote in his poll, Rec his diaries, get on his bandwagon, send him a donation, and earn his blessing.

Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! Although 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, that’s okay, we all do what we can. For more than 2 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this is a group diary.
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
