First off, apologies for the negative candidate diary. I know many people here feel very strongly that removing Trump from office is of paramount importance and we shouldn’t attack any of the Democratic candidates ever (or at least not attack the apparent frontrunner).
I agree that removing Trump from office is priority #1. He is a cancer on the presidency and is turning this nation into a fake-democracy dictatorship in the same vein as Russia or Turkey. If Trump gets a second term, we will not recognize this country by the end of it. This is why it is extremely important that we vet our candidates with a very high level of scrutiny, and yes, this includes saying bad things about the Democrats sometimes when it is warranted. If we nominate the wrong person and Trump is victorious in the general election, this country is fucked. There is no sugar coating this. We have a field of almost 20 candidates, most of whom are very talented speakers and are passionate about implementing policies that will help the average American and strengthen our democracy. We owe it to ourselves and to the country to really taking a magnifying glass to our candidates so we don’t make a horrible mistake.
The photo above was making the rounds on Twitter yesterday along with his much ridiculed “No Malarkey” campaign bus. While the bus is easy to make fun of, it didn’t give me the slow sinking sensation that I felt seeing the former Vice President sucking on his wife’s finger at a campaign event in Iowa. Before anyone asks, yes this photo is unedited.
Joe Biden very clearly is not playing with a full deck anymore. This is understandable, since he is 77 years old, but do we really want to choose as our opponent to an old white Republican with dementia… an old white Democrat with dementia? The flag hugging dude versus the finger sucking dude? Seriously, just picture the Biden-Trump debates in your head for a moment. It would be a veritable shit-show of epic proportions, like the worst assisted living facility argument you can possibly imagine. I shudder at the thought. And every sane Democrat across this country should be doing the same. We can do better than that. We must do better.
I could also bring up his terrible track record (Bankruptcy Bill, Iraq War vote, Anita Hill, etc) or the fact that Republicans will go after him for the Burisma stuff (fake scandals have an effect on voters too; remember Benghazi?) or the fact that Republicans will try to tar him as a pedophile for all his weird and inappropriate child touching episodes. At a certain point, we need to make a judgement call about who is really our strongest candidate to depose Trump and save our country from ruin.
Is it Biden? If he really is the strongest Democrat for a general election, then god help us all...
