I notice there are a lot of Kamala supporters here at Daily Kos. People are mourning over her dropping out of the presidential race, and people are pushing her as VP.
I would like to understand why. I hadn't even considered voting for Kamala because I don't know what she stands for. I don't get any sense from her that she has a vision for anything. Same reason I'm not considering Mayor Pete.
But when I saw how much support there was for Kamala at DK, I realized that I must have been missing something. To get so much support, she must have a vision? She must have innovative policy proposals? She must have a purpose in running, a purpose beyond herself? At the very least she must have words that inspire people?
So I combed through lots of posts looking for clues about what those visions or policies or principles or purposes or words might be.
Setting aside things that seem pretty standard for all the Dem candidates, I came up with two things:
- she prioritized mental health programs (probably all the candidates would support such programs, but Kamala appears to have made it a priority)
- she would be a "prosecutorial" president... but, um, what does that mean, and would it be a good thing?
Of course, there is her identity as a POC and as a woman, definite pluses for sure, but not enough by themselves. Any of us could easily come up with a hundred people with both characteristics whom none of us would want to vote for. So there has to be more. What am I missing? Kamala supporters, what does Kamala stand for? What is her vision?
