The impeachment proceedings of Donald Trump, began on Wednesday, in front of the House Judiciary Committee. Today’s witnesses were legal experts, brought in to discuss how and why there was—or wasn’t—a legal requirement to impeach our current white supremacist in chief. Chairman Rep. Nadler opened by explaining the facts.
The ranking Republican member on the committee, Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) gave his opening remarks that set out what passes for the scattershot, incoherent republican talking points: there are no facts, this is theater, it’s a witch hunt, and the American people—though polling says otherwise—do not want impeachment proceedings.
Rep. Collins also tried to argue that the legal experts brought before the committee on Wednesday were all eggheads and would not be speaking to the facts in the case. Professor Pamela Karlan used her opening statement to shut that freshman high school debate class bullshit down, calling out Collins by name and saying she spent Thanksgiving weekend reading everything—something that all of the Republicans on the committee spent the rest of the day saying they didn’t have enough time to do.
And off we went.
Many people pointed out that Rep. Doug Collins seemed to have a hard time using words to lie with.
Meanwhile, the witnesses explained what impeachment is, what the architects on impeachment meant, how Donald Trump has crossed the lines of impeachable behavior as president, and people took notice.
But the Republicans had their own man on the job, hack legal expert Johnathan Turley, who went against everything he said back in 1998, when Republicans brought him on to explain why then President Bill Clinton should be impeached, to now say, everybody needed to take it easy on Donald Trump, using a terribly twisted bit of obfuscation surrounding the word “bribery.”
Before we get into all of the madness that is the Republican’s witness in their attack on the Republic, let’s walk down memory lane to see a younger, blown out hairdo Johnathan Turley arguing that extra marital sex was grounds for impeachment.
Yup. What could have changed his mind?
Ooops, I meant to put this.
Or this.
Here’s some more reactions from to today’s hearings.
Oh yeah, Rep. Jim Jordan was there.
So was the world’s dumbest elected official Louie Gohmert.
And just when you thought you forgot that the bottom had wiggle room, Rep. Matt Gaetz from Florida reminded you that he was still actively being an asshole.
But in the end, the Republican party has shown that they are only as good as their head executive.
And their head executive is Donald Trump.
Finally, Wednesday was over.
