Does Bill Barr have to sound like a mobster every time he talks? This is a nice community you have. It would be a shame if someone wrecked it.
The Washington Post:
“Today, the American people have to focus on something else, which is the sacrifice and the service that is given by our law enforcement officers. And they have to start showing, more than they do, the respect and support that law enforcement deserves,” Barr said in pointed remarks delivered at a Justice Department ceremony to honor police officers.
Barr added that “if communities don’t give that support and respect, they might find themselves without the police protection they need.”
Comparing police to returning Vietnam veterans, Barr also said people should stop protesting against cops because their job is hard.
Similarly, he suggested, Americans should stop protesting police officers “fighting an unrelenting, never-ending fight against criminal predators in our society.”
Respect is a two-way street, Bill. Unless you’re talking about a protection racket. You’re not, are you?
Why is it so hard to fathom that people in a community — particularly the most vulnerable people — might not want to be profiled, or tased for no reason or (gee, I don’t know) shot for holding a cellphone?
Cops have a difficult job. No one disputes that. But they also have a responsibility to those they serve, and if they don’t live up to it — particularly if they abuse the innocent — they need to be held accountable.
Ah, who am I talking about? This is Bill Barr. He picks and chooses who’s held accountable. He’s a mob consigliere, after all — not a real attorney general.
