On October 14, Crashing Vor published an excellent diary, A Poll to Watch, about an annual poll of members of the active duty military, usually performed from mid-September to early October, and released in mid-October. Trump’s support or lack of support from the military is an extremely imporant question.
Since 2016, the polls showed a trend of decreasing support for Trump in the military:
Just before the 2016 election, Trump had a 46-37% favorable to unfavorable rating,
The October 2017 Poll showed Trump at 44-40% favorable, but with movement away from Trump by officers compared with enlisted members, with officers at 53% negative.
The October 2018 Poll showed a virtual tie, 43.8/43.1, positive to negative.
Crashing Vor wondered what the 2019 poll would show — though it would have been performed in September and early October — before Trump’s desertion of Northern Syria and the Kurds, and the spectacle of Russians taking over the former US base. See Many Troops express disgust with Trump actions
And after that, we had the grotesque pardoning and embrace of war criminals, causing worry to rise in military over Trump's Decision making.
In light of these recent developments, the usual September-October poll would like have substantially underestimated Trump’s growing unpopularity in the military.
So what happened to the 2019 poll?
Were the results quashed because they were terrible for Trump?
