Before you read this, I just want to warn you that the links I included to validate what I’m talking about might be risky. Click at your own risk. That said, here’s my diary.

I just now wanted to respond to a comment on my last diary. In order to do so, I wanted to know how many Democrats are in the House of Representatives. This is what showed up in the blurb on the top of my search.
Currently, Democrats have 193 seats in the 435-member House, while Republicans hold 235, and seven seats sit vacant (skewing the numbers slightly). A party needs to hold 218 seats to have a majority.
I thought, “That’s not right.” I scrolled down, and the next two didn’t address my question in the blurb, then the next one said this.
The number of Democrats serving in the U.S. House of Representatives changes with each election cycle, but as of April 2014, only 199 Democrats hold elected office in this Congressional chamber. Democrats are the minority party out of 435 members.
I was distressed. I’m used to getting accurate information when I do a search. Then I realized that I had accidentally done a Yahoo search and I thought, “Oh, thank goodness. I’ll do a Google search.”
So I did.
And I had to scroll down for the first blurb that purported to answer my question, and I got this.
House of Representatives: 238 Republicans (including 1 Delegate and the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico), 201 Democrats (including 4 Delegates), and 2 vacant seats. Senate: 51 Republicans, 47 Democrats, and 2 Independents, who both caucus with the Democrats.
This is very fucked up, y’all. The top searches are showing stuff from elitedaily.com which looks like a deliberately fake news site, a very old post from reference.com, and Google is a dated one from www.senate.com.
We are under siege. This is scary. Please be very careful what you share in this disinformation environment. We all know that Trump is Putin’s puppet, but we have to do everything we can to avoid becoming Putin’s stooges.
November 2020 or bust.
