With the impeachment schedule so packed, there may be no one interested in down-ballot races today. But just think if we hadn’t flipped the House last year—none of this would be happening. The House Judiciary Committee would not be marking up the articles of impeachment right now. We could forget about a vote by the full House. Just think if we had a Democratic Senate now for the trial! Elections matter, and the fight to win starts long before election day.
The DKHive has a mission to support the Democratic down-ballot--to win back the Senate, keep the House, and support state and local races, especially women, POC, and LGBTQ candidates, and those endorsed by Senator Kamala Harris. (DKHive welcome and introduction here.) We particularly want to draw attention to people who don’t get a lot of coverage on this site or elsewhere, in tough races in red/purple districts. Candidates who are facing sexist, racist, and/or homophobic opponents need more support.
The effort to flip the Senate and hold the House is eased a bit by the 22 Republican representatives and 4 Republican senators who are scuttling away like...Republicans (I’m not going to call them rats; I used to have pet rats, and rats can be very sweet). Very useful: Ballotpedia’s 2020 Senate page here, 2020 House of Representatives page here. From those landing pages, you can click on any race to find out details on candidates, race ratings, and more.

Kamala Harris has always lifted up others—let us follow her lead and lift up the down-ballot.

“My mother would always tell me that if you’re the first to do something, make sure you’re not the last. That’s why it’s so important to be a mentor and lift others up and get involved in the fight for who we are.”—Kamala Harris |
When Katie Hill was victimized by her estranged husband, Kamala Harris stood up for her. We need to support Christy Smith to fill Katie Hill’s seat:
Christy Smith is facing a misogynistic carpetbagger--Cenk Uygur. The primary is March 3, 2020. Smith’s campaign website here.
We need to flip the Senate—with candidates like Sara Gideon:
Susan Collins is vulnerable—we can win if we try. Sara Gideon’s campaign website here.
Jaime Harrison, running against Lindsey Graham:
Lindsey Graham is despicable—he needs to go. Jaime Harrison’s campaign website here.
We need to support endangered House members—like Lauren Underwood, who (like Kamala Harris) is working to reduce black maternal mortality with focused legislation:
Lauren Underwood is a rising star, and top Republican target--her re-election campaign website here.
Lucy McBath honors her son’s memory with her dedication to stopping gun violence:
Lucy McBath is another top target--her re-election campaign website here.
Sharice Davids knocked out the odious Kevin Yoder in 2018—she is a Republican target in 2020:
Sharice Davids is a terrific member of Congress—her re-election campaign website here.
Xochitl Torres Small flipped her red district in 2018 by such a narrow margin, the race was initially called for her opponent. She is already a dark money target for 2020:

Control of state legislatures determines who makes decisions about people’s lives—and how fairly new districts are drawn.
We need to support state-level candidates running to flip seats—like Ruby Bodeker:
The further down the ballot you go, the further your dollars and/or time go:
There are many other races to cover, and many more resources to use. Just one example: Higher Heights is the only political action committee exclusively dedicated to electing more progressive Black women at the federal, statewide and mayoral levels. They endorsed Kamala Harris for president, and applauded her for a hard-fought race under difficult conditions:
Today reminds us that Black women running for office face many unique challenges. Senator Harris’ “For the People” Campaign, certainly helped clear the path for other women running at all levels in 2020 and beyond.
Senator Harris continues to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to Black women’s leadership, working in support of our mission to elect more Black women and to help create the environment for Black women to run, win and lead. This work will continue with even more focus and intent in large part because her candidacy.

Endorsement lists of groups like Higher Heights are a way to learn more about candidates.
The above list does not do these candidates justice. They, and many others, need more in-depth coverage by someone—maybe you?
Group Guidelines
The DKHive Community group has been created by former Kamala2020 Group members to positively support efforts to re-take the Senate and keep Democratic control of the House of Representatives.
We will support candidates supported by Senator Harris as well as other candidates, especially women, POC, and down ballot democrats in local races.
All should be made to feel welcome here. What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity — that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions — that’s 100% on us.
We’d like to ask all group members, as well as those dropping by who support or are interested in Democratic control of the Senate and House, that we not respond to negativity from other campaigns’ supporters with even more negativity. Let’s do better than our best and respond with respect, humor or try to hold our peace.
Recipes and cat pics work, too.

If you would like to join our group, please ask for an invitation in the comments, and one will be KosMailed to you.
Our members will largely share in writing diaries, in much the same fashion as we did with the Kamala2020 group — all voices are welcome. We hope to continue with regular 2 or 3 x weekly diaries, although we will likely vary the publish times of the diaries throughout the week. Suggestions on this are welcome! Sign-ups will begin immediately!
