In the wake of JustSecurity’s publication of evidence of widespread knowledge of Trump’s illegal action with Ukraine, Mauro calls Ernst’s involvement beneath the dignity of the office
(Des Moines, Iowa - January 2, 2020) - Unredacted documents published by JustSecurity this morning portrayed administration-wide complicity and negligence concerning congressionally appropriated international aid to Ukraine, all orchestrated by President Donald Trump. This includes emails discussing the Senate Armed Services Committee questioning the delay in funding in early August. Eddie Mauro, a Democratic candidate running to unseat Joni Ernst, has released the following statement:
“Based on the communications revealed in this article, and Joni Ernst's positions on both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Ukraine Caucus, one of two scenarios can be true -- 1. Joni Ernst is guilty of gross negligence by not ensuring the funds she is responsible for overseeing are being appropriated, or 2. Joni actively knew that Donald Trump was using Ukraine aid as a bargaining chip in August, and said nothing. Either placed Ukraine in a very vulnerable position against Russia and posed a national security threat to the US and both are beneath the dignity of this office and utterly disqualifying.”
