Up until Warren decided to engage in dirty politics she was my second choice.
Elizabeth Warren, desperate, falls back on a classic dirty trick Set up your rival, then play victim
It’s the classic political dirty trick from a desperate candidate — leak a damaging tidbit about your opponent to a friendly media outlet, wait for the fireworks to explode, then act like you’re the one who’s been wronged.
And it should come as no surprise that the dirty trick is coming from U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. She comes from a state with a long history of campaign hijinks and smears By Joe Battenfeld | Boston Herald
In 2016 I was #RunWarrenRun when she choose not to run I took a look at the other candidates on the Democratic ticket and gave my support to Bernie Sanders.
Being a woman who supported Bernie in 2016 meant you endured a lot of verbal abuse by HRC supporters. You were accused of just supporting him because that’s where the young men were (laughable to say about a woman in her 50s) and insulting to say about any woman as if she didn’t have the brains to choose a candidate for herself but just followed the guys to whatever candidate they gravitated to. Perhaps HRC supporters are the real sexist.
Of course that’s when they remembered he had women supporters most of the time they just insultingly lumped all his supporters together as Bernie Bros
When their ridicule and threats of going to hell didn’t convince you to vote for HRC they graciously gave you permission to vote for Bernie and smugly assured you that it would be a wasted vote as he couldn’t beat her. Until he started winning in some states and tying her in others. Then the vitriol reached new levels how dare anyone run against their candidate., after all it was HRC turn. And in fact these rabid HRC supporters never forgave Bernie for running against her in 2016, so they are all to happy to attack him and his supporters now.
I always admired how Bernie and Warren stood together. I liked that in this primary season we were discussing ideas and policy and not resorting to identity politics. I thought that if either of them were the nominee it would be wonderful although I choose to support Bernie since he ran in 2016, when the slew of progressives running this primary season couldn’t be found.
Now Warren has ended the unity with an unprovable accusation. In a PRIVATE conversation she is accusing him of saying something he didn’t say. She can’t prove he said it, and he can’t prove he didn’t although the vast number of statements he has issued in the past supporting women make it unlikely that he would have said what she has accused him of. The HRC tangent amongst Warren’s supporters couldn’t wait to go on the attack. The reference to Bernie Bros (which I had hoped died in 2016) has resurfaced with a vengeance along with the suggestion that now women can’t support him.
I find it highly unlikely that he did say what she is accusing him of and highly suspicious that she aired the accusation when he started doing better in the polls even beating Biden for the top spot in some.
The first Iowa survey was the one conducted by Ann Selzer and sponsored by The Des Moines Register and CNN. On Friday, it found Mr. Sanders with a three-point lead and 20 percent of the vote. Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg were at 17 percent and 16 percent. Joe Biden was in fourth, with 15 percent.
On Monday the other pollster, Monmouth, found Mr. Biden in first with 24 percent of the vote — nine points higher than in the Selzer poll. Mr. Sanders was in second, with 18 percent
Look I understand Warren wants to win, but attacking Bernie and his supporters (many of whom considered Warren their second choice) isn’t the way to go about it. I can only guess that it was an misguided effort to peel away his women supporters
I hope that Warren will take Bernie up on his offer to talk things out and this rift between the two progressive candidates can be mended, because the only one who really benefits from this rift in the primary is Biden.
