Looks like FORMER Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin — he lost reelection in November — fucked up with regards to one of his favorite rapists, Dayton Jones. Seems that Bevin only commuted Dayton Jones sentence. And it has been ruled by the new Democratic Governor Andy Beshear that Bevin issued a commution not a pardon. By law, this means that Dayton Jones has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
For those of you not in the know, Dayton Jones used a sex toy to rape a passed out fifteen year old boy at a party. Jones uploaded the video of the rape online and sent a text message acknowledging his guilt to a former friend. The boy had to have emergency surgery because the rape was so violent it ruptured his rectum. Jones was convicted of sodomy and uploading child porn and was serving his sentence when his grandparents made a $3000 dollar campaign contribution to the newly elected GOP district attorney of Christian County, where the rape occured.
Jones’ grandparents are wealthy and politically connected, and the DA, a former U.S. Republican congressman, and others began a campaign to get then Governor Matt Bevin to pardon Dayton Jones. The GOP DA lied and said that Jones was the victim of a political vendetta by the special prosecutor in the case. Bevin only looked at documents sent by Jones’ grandparents, and Bevin decided to commute Jones’ sentence.
Anyway, here is the lastest:
Dayton Jones is free, but he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after he was convicted of sodomizing a 15-year-old boy with a sex toy, Kentucky officials have determined.
Gov. Andy Beshear’s legal team and the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet have determined that Jones, 25, received a commutation, not a pardon, from former Gov. Matt Bevin in the gruesome sodomy case.
That means the conviction stays on his record, requiring him to appear on Kentucky's sex offender registry.
Lisa Lamb, a spokeswoman for the state Corrections Department, said in an email Wednesday that Jones has been directed to report to the Hopkinsville Probation and Parole Office to register and be placed on a five-year period of sex offender post-incarceration supervision, as required by state law.
Jones, 25, was the oldest of four defendants who pleaded guilty in an October 2014 assault in which an unconscious 15-year-old boy was sodomized with a sex toy and nearly died from a perforated bowel.
Lifetime registration is mandatory in Kentucky for offenders convicted of sodomy, rape and kidnapping of a minor. No registrant may live within 1,000 feet of a school, publicly owned playground or licensed day care facility.
Jones pleaded guilty to sodomy, wanton endangerment and distributing matter that portrays a sexual performance by a minor.
And you can bet that his grandparents are not happy about this matter. They do not want their darling grandson to be a registered sex offender. Sometimes, you don’t get what you pay for.
