Welcome to the New Day Cafe! This is an open thread.
We all have periodic occasions to call into question the truth of someone’s account.
According to experts, body language and facial cues are highly unreliable means of identifying a lie.
Here are a couple of more effective ways, per the experts:
-When someone lies, they use a statistically more limited vocabulary. They tend to repeat the same words over and over again.
-Truthtellers tend to give more information. Liars will be more vague.
The best way one expert recommends to identify a lie is to act as basically a human lie detector---to identify a baseline in a person’s behavior and analyze how far he or she is deviating from his or her own norms of behavior.
That doesn’t necessarily sound that easy, which is probably part of why lies get as much traction as they do.
Grab an honestly delicious cup of coffee,
a treat,
and share what’s on your mind this morning.
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
