It’s that time of the year again, where the rich and the powerful get together and talk turkey over champagne and caviar, at the World Economic Forum gathering at Davos, a mountain resort in Switzerland, and exchange notes on how to “make the world a better place.” The theme of the meeting this year is “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World” and the focus will be on climate change (sounds good).
The occupant of the WH is generally not comfortable with these kinds of meetings; he is a burger and fries kind of guy and is more comfortable in the company of polluters, thugs and dictators. But, it gave him a reason to escape from the impeachment trial in the Senate and perhaps gives him a chance to get fresh orders from his puppet-master. The IMPOTUS also gets a chance to spout his usual blather in front on a non-MAGA crowd.
So, here are a few tweets and videos of Day 1 at Davos, so you can catch up with the happenings outside the beltway and read some mirthy reactions to it.
Davos, a quick escape for the trapped president.
Jim Acosta’s arrival at Davos, caught on tape!
The “plumbers” have arrived to manage “leaks” and bed-bugs -
trump cannot talk about any subject besides himself, so what’s new.
In a forum titled “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”, trump talked about climate change as hoax, attacked climate activists as “prophets of doom” and crowed about his “accomplishments”. The fact checkers, as usual, had a tough time keeping up.
Everyone noticed the low energy, groggy body language and slurred speeches. Was he on drugs?
Bet everyone was asleep or enjoying the champagne.
Horse tranquilizer? Could be an extra shot of adderall.
trump managed to squeeze a comical ALL-CAPS tweet between meetings.
Jeff, this is no time for jokes and comedy.
John Cleese is worried about trump supporters ...
Trevor Noah is puzzled about what Ivanka does in these meetings, besides look like a doll -
There were the regular band of protesters, whose voices I am sure could not penetrate the sound-proof walls of the venue -
And of course, there were some adults in the room — talking about the primary topic of this meeting -
There are many more like Greta — informed, passionate, and articulate.
“Greta, not trump, is the true leader of the free wold” — says noted climatologist Michael Mann.
A quick reality check —
The resistance at Davos, bravo!
Cynicism aside, some good things do happen in Davos. There will be plenty of constructive speeches and calls to action by leaders from Europe, Africa and Asia in days to come.
And reports and data to help guide the global economy -
Now, let’s get back to the Potemkin trial in the Senate, put some more pressure on GOP Senators and let’s keep educating the electorate about the hollow men of the GOP.
