While the Senate “deliberates” over the trial of trump and his crimes, while his lawyers and minions in Congress throw up a reality show full of lies, deceptions and utter nonsense, trump is attending the World Economic Forum gathering at Davos, creating his own reality show full of lies, deceptions and utter nonsense.
The IMPOTUS has a chance to rub noses with the rich and powerful from around the world and talk policy, but he barely gets along with anyone besides a few sycophants, thugs and dictators anyways, so he is busy ranting about the impeachment, crowing about his own fake accomplishments and generally making an ass of himself for the world to see.
Here is a summary —
- IMPOTUS called Nadler and Schiff sleazebags
- Boasted that the administration has withheld all evidence in the impeachment trial
- Threats of news tariffs against Europe (but not Russia)
- Threats to expand travel ban to a few more countries.
- The cavalier claim that brain trauma for soldiers in Iraq are just “headaches”
- Sent clear signals to keep Bolton and other witnesses from appearing in the Senate trial
- New threats to cut Social Security and Medicare in his next term in CNBC interview
- Fact-free boasting about the U.S. economy, which he “single-handedly” is responsible for.
So, here are a few tweets and videos of Day 1 and 2 at Davos, so you can catch up with the happenings outside the beltway and also read some mirthy reactions to it.
Davos provided a quick escape opportunity for the trapped president.
In a forum titled “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”, trump talked about climate change as hoax and attacked climate activists as “prophets of doom”.
He also crowed about his economic “accomplishments”.
The fact checkers, as usual, had a tough time keeping up.
A Nobel Prize winning economist was at hand to set the record straight —
Everyone noticed the low energy, groggy body language and slurred speeches. Was he on drugs? Besides, he is just reading pre-written speeches and taking few questions.
This morning, he was ranting about impeachment and even crowing (confessing) about the fact that they have suppressed all evidence at the trial.
Obstruction of justice in plain sight.
More nonsense to prevent Bolton from testifying —
Also, he called Nadler and Schiff sleazebags. Very presidential. Unfortunately, trump’s sleaziness works to keep his base energized.
Also, IMPOTUS made it very clear that he is utterly unfit to be Commander-in-chief. Send this tweet to every man and woman in the armed forces.
The reaction to his speech ?
IMPOTUS is a snake-oil marketeer, nothing more.
The wrecking ball aspect of the presidency was on full display as the IMPOTUS threatened more tariffs against Europe.
And of course, trump loves Russia.
Social Security and Medicare are in the cross-hair in a jibberish interview with CNBC -
JOE KERNEN: Entitlements ever be on your plate?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: At some point they will be. We have tremendous growth. We’re going to have tremendous growth. This next year I-- it’ll be toward the end of the year. The growth is going to be incredible. And at the right time, we will take a look at that. You know, that’s actually the easiest of all things, if you look, cause it’s such a--
JOE KERNEN: If you’re willing--
PRESIDENT TRUMP: --big percentage.
JOE KERNEN: --to do some of the things that you said you wouldn’t do in the past, though, in terms of Medicare--
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we’re going-- we’re going look. We also have-- assets that we’ve never had. I mean we’ve never had growth like this. We never had a consumer that was taking in, through-- different means, over $10,000 a family. We never had the kind of-- the kind of things that we have. Look, our country is the hottest in the world. We have the hottest economy in the world. We have the best unemployment numbers we’ve ever had. African American, Asian American. Hispanics are doing so incredibly.

And he also channeled Stephen Miller by announcing that the US will expand travel ban to a few more countries.
And there was this from the unstable ungenius — trump is concerned about protecting the inventor of the wheel. ** facepalm **
JOE KERNEN: Tesla’s now worth more than GM and Ford. Do you have comments on Elon Musk?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well-- you have to give him credit. I spoke to him very recently, and he’s also doing the rockets. He likes rockets. And-- he does good at rockets too, by the way. I never saw where the engines come down with no wings, no anything, and they’re landing. I said I’ve never seen that before. And I was worried about him, because he’s one of our great geniuses, and we have to protect our genius. You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that-- came up with originally the light bulb and-- the wheel and all of these things. And he’s one of our very smart people and we want to-- we want to cherish those people. That’s very important. But he’s done a very good job. Shocking how well-- you know, how it’s come so fast. I mean you go back a year and they were talking about the end of the company. And now all of a sudden they’re talking about these great things. He’s going to be building a very big plant in the United States. He has to, because we help him, so he has to help us.

What is heck is that last line all about? There’s lot more crazy stuff in that interview.
Thank goodness, there were some adults in the room — addressing the actual topic of this meeting -
There are many more like Greta — informed, passionate, and articulate.
The change-makers -
Cynicism aside, some good things do happen in Davos. There will be plenty of constructive speeches and calls to action by leaders from Europe, Africa and Asia in days to come.
And reports and data to help guide the global economy -
Now, let’s get back to the Potemkin trial in the Senate. To be fair, the outcome of the Senate trial is predetermined, what we must do is keep educating the electorate about the cravenness and criminality of the GOP and ensure a fair outcome of the November elections.
