As a former president, Obama has been reluctant to throw his profound influence behind any Democratic candidate during the primaries. His occasional public appearances have given some indication about his leanings and wisdom, sounding notes of realism, moderation, pragmatism, as well as patience.
Obama has also hosted most of the Democratic candidates at his DC office, trying to give them sage advice and urging unity.
Now that the primaries are nearly upon us, though, Obama may be on the verge of breaking his silence.
According to a WaPo article published yesterday, sources from within Obama’s “inner circle” are now indicating that President Obama does not support Bernie Sanders and is considering campaigning against him if Sanders verges on winning the nomination.
As I’ve mentioned in previous diaries, this 2020 election is above all a fight for democracy itself, a fight with Putin’s Russia and its assets and allies (Trump, Gabbard, MoscowMitch, Jill Stein, et al). Sanders is no Russian asset, but after Gabbard, Sanders is almost certainly Russia’s preferred candidate for the Democratic nomination. That Russian asset Jill Stein and her former campaign managers have allied with Bernie and even now work for his campaign is no coincidence.
Russia/Putin hates Obama and Clinton, as well as the historic anti-Russian foreign policy that they represent. Whatever disagreements we have with Obama or Clinton, for the sake of our country and this moment in time, we should be listening to them.
