Check out this very powerful ad from Joe Biden’s campaign. In the ad the former President praises Biden’s public service to our nation.
This is a very moving and an effective ad. I can see this one running frequently. The ad also highlights how popular Barack Obama is in our party.
I would be surprised if Obama endorses before it’s clear who are nominee will be, but this political ad is a close to an endorsement as you can get—without officially having one. I really like this ad.
This ad also reminded me of a comment made yesterday by Adam B. I respect Adam’s take on current politics. He shared his opinion and poll results that confirm just how popular the former president is in our party.
Mr “Hope and Change” Barack Obama may take a break from his vacationing on a private island with wealthy CEO’s to come out to trash Bernie, he of the willingness to place Social Security on the chopping block to make a deal with the Republicans.
Keep running against the most popular leader in the modern Democratic party and see where that gets you.
Look at the latest (or any) Harvard/Harris Poll: given the ability to choose three labels more Dems self-identify as Obama Democrats (48%) or Moderate (35%) or Liberal (34%) Democrats, or even Clinton Democrats (27%) than they do Progressive (24%) or Democratic Socialist (16%).
I have to be honest—the comment that Adam B replied to bothered me greatly. Barack Obama is by far the greatest president in my lifetime. When our nation was at it’s lowest and we were suffering through the the worst financial crisis and economy since the Great Depression, Obama led us through those dark hours with a steadiness our country desperately needed at the time. I respect him greatly for his leadership during his term.
A couple of thoughts about the poll.
1. It highlights our party is a coalition of all types of views, whether they’re moderate, progressive, socialist. A candidate will have to draw from them all to win the nomination, and Democrats happen to self-identify as Obama Democrats at nearly 50% in this poll.
2. It goes without saying and Adam B highlighted this in his comment as well, any candidate or their supporters who decides to run against the most popular figure in our party is making a mistake.
I’m an example of what Adam B is talking about in his comment and truthfully, if I see any candidate or their supporters making Obama an issue in this campaign—I would be less likely to consider that candidate in the primary.
You may say who cares, but judging by these poll results, there are many more like me and without ‘Obama Democrats’ a candidate can’t realistically expect to win the Democratic nomination.
