By that, I’m not necessarily saying either as vice president for eachother — that hurts our chances in the senate, and may not be as strategic.
I’m also not talking about holding some double-think where you have to think of them both as the best. No mental gymnastics required.
Instead, I’m saying that both of them are awesome for their own reasons — and we want MAXIMUM Bernie and MAXIMUM Elizabeth whatever happens.
We also want maximum of all their supporters — yes, even the ones that say bad things sometimes — they’re still votes, and we want votes and votes and votes in a nation that contains people that are very often wrong about most things, but can be moved to do good things sometimes.
We’re at the start of the big primary time — so you’re going to see bombs lobbed and offense taken all over the place — and that’s all fine.
But what most people really think behind the scenes is that they’re both really great folks unfortunately pitted in a contest — and it’s a shame to insult one to help the other.
So yes — do proceed and insist how you think your preferred candidate will play the role better — that’s great.
But while you’re playing that game — go that little bit further while you do, and avoid playing the other person as some pure enemy.
Even if just a little — it’ll be more healthy for you, and at least so far, I think it would be more healthy for your team.
I’m for either Warren or Sanders. I’d love to have either of them.
My preference is really just for the ideals they hold — they’re a mechanism that I think our nation can be better over time.
That’s why I can be for both — because all the personality details are just that — noisy details that always get washed away by politics.
And really, I think that’s what’s really important to folks more than all the primary arguments.
Maximize what you care about in terms of the values we all share — be for both Warren and Sanders. And calm down the discussion wherever makes sense, even while you fight for your preference.
We need both if we’re going to end up with a better party over time.
