I see there’s a Michael Bloomberg ad on as I watch Iowa caucus coverage on MSNBC. Sigh…
Speaking of which, the anti-Bernie fix is alive and well at MSNBC. I just watched a remarkable exchange between Professor Jason Johnson on the talking head panel and Sanders campaign official State Senator Nina Turner. Before I started watching, Ms Turner apparently referred to Mr Bloomberg as an oligarch. Horrors! I understand this alleged mischaracterization was summarily corrected by Prof Johnson. I gather to such an extent that some MSNBC producer allowed Ms Turner to return in a subsequent segment to debate the characterization.
Ms Turner held her ground and refused to change her statement. Prof Johnson mansplained to her that there really is no difference between Sanders and Bloomberg, because they’re both in “the 1%”. It therefore is manifestly unfair to call Bloomberg an oligarch, he apparently reasons.
Let’s just think about that for a microsecond.
Bernie Sanders net worth = $2,000,000 (est). That’s millions.
Michael Bloomberg net worth = $56,000,000,000 (est). That’s billions.
A little simple math reveals that Bloomberg therefore has net worth 28,000 times greater than Sanders! Really Jason, there’s no difference? 28,000 times more wealth, but they’re both “1%ers”! Are you s__tting me?
One more comparison in terms of campaign contributions.
Sanders 2020 primary campaign contributions = $100,000,000 (roughly). That’s millions.
Michael Bloomberg net worth = $56,000,000,000. That’s billions.
A little simple math. Bloomberg can finance Sanders primary campaign 560 times (or for the next two millenia). With billions left to spare.
Professor Johnson/MSNBC, your bias is showing. I know you want Joe to win, but really! They’re not comparable at all, and you know it!
