Michael Bloomberg is out with a new ad today that goes directly after Trump, The Real State of the Union:
“The real state of the union: a nation divided by an angry, out of control president. A White House beset by lies, chaos and corruption. An administration that has failed the American people. It doesn’t have to be this way. Next year we can have a leader who brings people together, solves problems and gets results. Mike Bloomberg will get it done.”
According to the NY Times: Bloomberg Plans to Double Ad Spending After Iowa Caucus Problem
Mr. Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor whose campaign is fueled by a multibillion-dollar personal fortune, conferred with advisers on Tuesday morning about the muddled results in Iowa. Encouraged by the murky outcome, Mr. Bloomberg authorized his campaign team to double his spending on television commercials in every market where he is currently advertising and expand his campaign’s field staff to more than two thousand people, strategists involved in the conversations said.
Bloomberg is quoted saying:
“It’s much more efficient to go to the big states, to go to the swing states,” Mr. Bloomberg said. “The others chose to compete in the first four. And nobody makes them do it, they wanted to do it. I think part of it is because the conventional wisdom is ‘Oh you can’t possibly win without them.’”
Later, he added: “Those are old rules.”
Bloomberg needs to be included in the Democratic Debates
The 2/3 Morning Consult poll has Bloomberg polling nationally at 14%, pulling even with Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
I don’t understand what the issue is, not having Bloomberg on the debate stage. Right now he has free run without having to answer live questions from the moderators, audience, and most importantly from the other candidates.
It would be good for Bernie to go mono-e-mono with the person who could be his prime competition for the nomination. It would be an opportunity for Bernie to shine and pick up new supporters.
But He’s A Billionaire
I realize there are those here who are abhorred the Bloomberg has used his own money to buy his way into the race, and that he is a billionaire.
Bloomberg is our billionaire. The NY Times reports that Bloomberg Proposes $5 Trillion in Taxes on the Rich.
The proposal includes a repeal of President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts for high earners, along with a new 5 percent ‘surcharge’ on incomes above $5 million per year. It would raise capital gains taxes for Americans earning more than $1 million a year and maintain a limit on federal deductions of state and local tax payments set under the 2017 law, which some Democrats have pushed to eliminate.
It would be nice to have a candidate with deep pockets running against Trump’s unlimited funds and unlimited free national news network (Fox) time. Priceless.
In conclusion Bloomberg is on the right side of the issues that most Democrats covet.
As I wrote in a previous diary: Bloomberg Is Getting Under Trump’s Skin
I’m not advocating for Mike but his agenda is mine; All-In Economy, Career & Technical Education, Climate Change, Economic Justice for Black America, Education & College Access, Gun Safety, Protecting Voting Rights for All Americans, and his Healthcare plan is one I can embrace.
Mike’s Healthcare plan includes a public option, building on Obamacare and lowering drug prices.
Most important to me none of Bloomberg’s plans are not unaffordable and/or would never get through Congress. The big-promises of some of our candidates are a real deal breaker to me.
Best of all, Bloomberg has promised his billions to back whomever our candidate is. That’s someone I can believe in...
We, for the most part have chosen our preferred candidate, but lest us not forget that this election is only about ONE big thing, defeating Donald Trump!
Let us all pledge to keep an open mind...
