Susan Collins put her reputation as a moderate, independent-minded Republican on life support when she first voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, then wrote hefty checks to race-baiting Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Well, that reputation is now officially dead. She’s voting to acquit Trump tomorrow when the Senate votes on whether to remove him. Watch here.
Collins said that while Trump’s actions were “improper and demonstrated very poor judgement,” they did not amount to high crimes and misdemeanors.
Um, Susan? Trump openly solicited the help of a foreign government to help him launch a politically motivated investigation of a rival—and threatened to withhold military aid unless that country joined him. That’s not just improper. That’s an abuse of power.
I just protested this in the most meaningful way possible—by donating to the Democrat running against her, state house speaker Sara Gideon. Yesterday, she announced a push to raise $100,000 in 72 hours.
After this announcement, it’s time to help Gideon smash through that goal and help her fire Collins in November.
