For all the pearl clutchers bemoaning the failure of apps, low-tech vote counters, and the Democratic Party in not just Iowa, we might want to recall 2012. The Republican Iowa caucus was held on January 3rd. Mitt Romney was declared the winner by nine votes. But 17 days later a certified vote count announced that Rick Santorum actually won Iowa by 34 votes, and worse yet there were nine precincts that to this day have not been found….you know, like Charlie on the MTA. This year’s mess is indeed a mess, but it’s a fixable mess, and it won’t come close to either 2012, or way worse yet a 2000 presidential election stolen by our Supreme Court and a 2016 true debacle where a loser “president” was saved by an eighteenth century pro-slavery artifact called the Electoral College. Bottom line: Let us clutch our pearls only when they should be clutched.
