Unmourned, unlamented, the Republican Party today committed suicide on the floor of the US Senate. The corpse, at this hour, remains where it fell and is expected to continue stinking up the place until January of 2021.
The cause of death is a self-inflicted wound of fatal illegitimacy.
By voting to absolve their party’s Glorious Leader of any consequence for the crime they all know he committed, they have endorsed the crime itself. They have all embraced cheating for the purposes of stealing an election, and they have given it their comprehensive stamp of approval.
This total abdication of responsibility can only be allowed to have a single outcome:
Any hypothetical “victory” by this tainted party, from now until the party’s total dissolution, is dubious at best.
They have made clear they do not care about legitimacy. They have stolen power and they will use absolutely any means to make sure the people can’t take it back.
We the people may reasonably conclude for the rest of time that the party will never again campaign in good faith for any office, anywhere.
The party is dead. All that’s left is to bury it and consign it to the past.
