First time posting. I have my opinions on our candidates, but ultimately I’d vote for them in the general- however, Bloomberg is so bad that I actually felt the need to write this blogpost. I tried to keep this short and sweet, but the fact that its ONLY this long underscores the fact that a fuller, more comprehensive look at Mike Bloomberg’s problems would make me the author of a book. If there’s anything Democrats should unify around in the primary, its tearing down Mike Bloomberg. Mike Bloomberg would depress our vote and lose to Donald Trump in historic fashion. Heres a short, incomplete list of why that is.
-Mike Bloomberg is blatantly racist. He implemented stop and frisk and terrorized communities of color in New York City. He had the NYPD spy on Muslim student groups. He thinks the financial crisis was caused because we stopped redlining. He tried to prevent paying the Central Park Five after their wrongful convictions. His racism often is on display with tv or audio recordings, which are ripe for anti-Bloomberg ads in the general election. There go the votes from pretty much every racial minority group.
-Mike Bloomberg is blatantly sexist. He once told a pregnant employee to “kill it”. While that is pro-abortion, that’s blatantly authoritarian and certainly not pro-choice. Four women have filed lawsuits for sexual harassment. This could turn off Democratic female voters in a way that it couldn't turn off Trump’s female voters. gawker.com/…
-Mike Bloomberg is anti-poor. He sued to prevent a minimum wage hike in NYC to TEN dollars an hour. Homelessness soared in New York City during his time. He banned bagel shops from giving bagels to homeless people. He further gentrified New York. There goes the working class vote. www.rawstory.com/…
-To the extent that he has addressed student debt, he’s said this: “you can't forgive it all…I think we have to step back and say, ‘Wait a second, where does all this debt come from?’” Another option, he said, would be for the federal government to lower interest rates, easing the burden on students.” www.nbcnews.com/… Cant forgive it all, lower interest rates- its what the people have been clamoring for. There goes the youth vote.
-Mike Bloomberg has bought the media and the political process. He’s bought endorsements from city officials all over the country with city grants and is anathema for anybody who believes the government is corrupt. If you want money out of politics, this guy is literally trying to BUY the presidency. For everyone who feels like the government will never help us because they're bought off- there goes that vote. abcnews.go.com/...
The people on cable tv suggest there is some crossover appeal to Republicans. No, there’s not. The only Republicans who would switch over are the mythical “Never Trumpers” who are only seen on tv. Republican support of Donald Trump typically hovers around 90%.
-Mike Bloomberg tells pregnant employee to “kill it” in response to her being pregnant. No Republicans will cross over and the evangelical vote will somehow increase.
-Mike Bloomberg is pro gun control. Supporting gun control, whether we talk about it this way or not, is a basic litmus test for Democrats. We expect our candidates to support gun control and fight the NRA. HOWEVER, pro-gun voters vote like their hair is on fire. Running your campaign in large part with your gun control stance is a surefire way to get Republicans and pro-gun independents to unite against you.
-He banned large sodas in New York City. This turned him into a joke because you can just buy two regular sodas, but it exposed his authoritarian personality. Trump would stomp him for this (as well as most of the other things).
After all this, Bloomberg’s constituency is the “vote blue no matter who” vote. Lets be real. Bloomberg has been blue since 2018. He aint blue. Even THIS supposedly unbreakable constituency might be at risk because he’s just SO bad. We will lose everything if we nominate Mike Bloomberg.
