Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’ former attorney, was convicted today of numerous federal counts of extortion and fraud in connection with an alleged attempt to coerce Nike into paying millions of dollars in exchange for Avenatti concealing allegedly illegal payments made by Nike to amateur basketball players.
This is a travesty, a miscarriage of justice. Avenatti, after being accused of the extortion plot, repeatedly denied there was any quid pro quo. Furthermore, Nike never actually made the payments, instead ratting Avenatti out to authorities.
Avenatti will obviously appeal the verdict and will likely cite very recent legal precedent established in a certain Washington, D.C. tribunal.
Best of luck, Mr. Avenatti. Given that these were federal charges, perhaps if you appeal the verdict the Justice Department and AG Barr will decide to drop the matter and…
Yeah, on second thought, I wouldn’t count on that.
