This is my first diary. I'm all in for Elizabeth Warren. Last night I worked at a rally that had an overflow crowd in Arlington, VA. She is truly inspiring. Warren's life experiences as a single mom working while going through school, parent, lawyer, professor and senator have given her the background to be a truly great and transformative president. Her accomplishments are many. The establishment of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was an immense task and she did incredible work in standing it up. My hat is off to anyone who can set up as complex an agency as CFPB that actually helps people in such a short period of time. Her grilling of bankers and financial executives during senate hearings is exciting to watch. (There are many to see) She clearly understands what is happening to middle America and has insights (plans) on how to fix it.
I am particularly drawn to her proposals on the wealth tax and her proposals to address income inequality. I think people that have wealth of over 50 million dollars can afford a 2 cent tax on each dollar above 50 million. She knows no one got rich on their own. Her ground breaking "you didn't build that by yourself" speech in 2012 really put things in perspective. Her focus on corruption is critical for our country to begin to reclaim democracy. Lobbyists have effectively bought the government for their own purposes. Until that is fixed, including the effects of the awful Citizens United decision, big money will continue to run things. Being a boomer, I am astounded by the student loans young people are encountering as the graduate into the workforce. That needs to be addressed and Elizabeth has a plan for that. Our generation has done wrong to young people in regard to funding higher education. Her proposed policies on universal pre-K and helping young families will help our country's future.
She has shown the capacity to study a problem, evaluate, and grow a solution. In the medicare for all debate, she evaluated the cost and likelihood of getting proposals enacted. She developed a two stage approach with the ultimate goal of getting to medicare for all. Personally, as a retiree, I like and appreciate medicare. It is awesome. I don't know anyone who has it and doesn't like it. But change is tough and Elizabeth recognized that a transition period is critical to reaching the ultimate goal I applaud her for her evaluation and evolution to achieving improvement to health care in this country.
These are just a few of the highlights that interest me most. All of her plans can be found at https://elizabethwarren.com/plans
The November election is critical to our democracy. This cannot be overstated. Our primary focus has to be to remove and replace this administration. It is paramount to remove Trump. While I am all in for Elizabeth and hope you all will vote for her in your primary, I will, and I hope you all will "Vote Blue, no matter who" in the November election. This is a critical time. We have been given a gift of democracy and we can't blow it for future generations.
