Just beyond my garage door, past the end of the truck, across the pavement, into the neighbor’s yard and our trees and everyone’s sky, birds sang and darted with morning energy. I wanted the world to see and hear, so I grabbed the camera. I hope you enjoy each of the 30 second videos. This is what I captured first.
A Cardinal, some Sparrows and Titmouse sang as I spotted a Downy Woodpecker looking for insects. Without traffic from the asphalt or jet stream I could hear the taps of a beak on bark. The, usually quiet, sounds were available and the Woodpecker took his work seriously. Suddenly a Crow interrupted the moment, the woodpecker fled and my attention moved on.
I reset the zoom in time to spot an Eastern Bluebird. The Cardinals and Sparrows continued to ignore me (and sang with vigor) as I focused in on the Bluebird. A Blue Jay blasted a note and the Bluebird flipped a wing while giving a chirp. I sensed a conversation of sorts had started. Then, it happened again as a dog and Crow argued in the background. Then that moment passed.
The Cardinals sang over the barking dog that lives down the street. I zoomed in on a group of Cedar Waxwings waiting their turn to feed at a berry laden bush. As the Waxwings preened, a Crow blasted a “caw” loud enough to disturb a Red-Bellied Woodpecker. Before the video was over a Wren announces his disapproval.
The bush was a busy place as Robins shared the berries with the Waxwings. Cardinals and Wrens scampered along the ground as Bluebirds and Tanagers dropped from tree to ground for their meal. All those birds were loud and happy. The Crows perched above and seemed to discuss all the activity.
I’ll close this diary with my bug of the day. I can’t decide what beetle this is but that is not an issue.
I hope you enjoyed today. May many more come for us. Thanks for stopping by.
