Frideswide told us the story last Friday about her MIL falling and breaking a hip. She encourages everyone now to consider an alert pendant for those at risk because of the hours they spend alone.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I have been remodeling a very old home with an eye to ageing in place for partner and me; so here are some of the “hacks” I have or will use. I hope that you will share what you know as well, there are so many of us here that will benefit from ideas for safer living for ourselves or our loved ones.

I installed a grab bar at the door to the shower that is low enough to reach from the floor.
All my new floors are textured to reduce skidding, and the side benefit goes to my dog as he ages as well, it is common for corgis to injure their backs, but all of us need to be careful of preventable falls or having our paws go out from under us.
Our house has three doors, and we were trying to develop design for the front porch that would include a ramp. The back door is much lower, nearly ground level, so now our plan is to have an ever so slightly sloped patio from the driveway to the back door. We might even put a carport at that part of the driveway, especially if we can use solar panels to recharge an electric vehicle.
What are you thinking about?
