He is utterly, utterly shameless (second tweet):
At today’s COVID-19 press conference, Donald Trump, when asked about the more somber tone he seems to have adopted in the past couple of days, said this:
“I didn’t feel different, I’ve always known this is a real … this is a pandemic. I thought this was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic; all you had to do was look at other countries. I think now it’s almost 120 countries all over the world. No, I’ve always viewed it as very serious. There was no difference yesterday from days before. I feel the tone is similar, but some people said it wasn’t.”
Let’s review:
February 10: "You know in April, supposedly, it dies with the hotter weather."
February 24: "The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA."
February 26: “This is a flu. This is like a flu."
February 26: “I think every aspect of our society should be prepared. I don't think it's going to come to that, especially with the fact that we're going down, not up. We're going very substantially down, not up. … And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."
February 27: “It's going to disappear. One day — it's like a miracle — it will disappear. And from our shores, we — you know, it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We'll see what happens. Nobody really knows.”
February 28: “The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. One of my people came up to me and said, 'Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.' That did not work out too well. They could not do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. ... They tried anything. ... And this is their new hoax."
March 2: “You know, three, four weeks ago, I said, 'Well, how many people die a year from the flu?' And, in this country, I think last year was 36- or 37,000 people. And I'm saying, 'Wow, nobody knew that information. So when you lose 27,000 people a year, nobody knew that. I didn't know that."
March 2: “We had a great meeting today with a lot of the great companies and they're going to have vaccines, I think relatively soon. And they're going to have something that makes you better and that's going to actually take place, we think, even sooner."
March 6: “I hear the numbers are getting much better in Italy."
March 6: “[W]e have very low numbers compared to major countries throughout the world ... lower than just about anybody."
March 9: “The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant. Surgeon General, ‘The risk is low to the average American.’”
March 15: “It's a very contagious virus, it's incredible, but it's something we have tremendous control of.”
And that’s far from a complete list.
Sorry, Donnie. We all have eyes, ears, and long-term memories. We know what you said and we know how you acted.
Our country’s shitty response is on you.
And you will own it forever.
