A fake reporter from a fake news agency is slipped into a White House press briefing to toss a softball question to the president. Where have we heard that before?
To the Wayback Machine:
January 26, 2005 — White House Press Conference:
President Bush was having a tough time fielding questions about “journalist/commentator/hack” Armstrong Williams receiving $240,000 from the Department of Education to gush about how great the Department’s policies were. (that was just the beginning. It would later be revealed that Karl Rove was running an entire media manipulation operation involving cash payments to Maggie Gallagher, Michael McMannus, and others. this was before the donors took over the bankrolling of fake media) After several tough questions he picks on another reporter for another tough question.
The question was posed by reporter Jeff Gannon of Talon News. Or rather, the scripted softball question was posed by James Guckert, a gay male escort who was using the name Jeff Gannon and had been hired by the right wing propaganda unit Talon News who had him slipped into the audience for the purposes of posing a softball questions to Bush and his toadies for more than a year.
Question (my interpretation): “Mr President, isn’t it just terrible that the evil Senator Harry Reid and the evil Hillary Clinton are attacking your glorious economic policies with evil rhetoric and how are you going to work with those evil people so that your glorious economic policies see their gloriousness fullfilled?”
Vanity Fair covered it pretty well.

And there is plenty of video. Here is just one compilation.

Fast forward to today:
One America News Network — fake right wing news agency — CHECK
Chanel Rion — fake right wing journalist — CHECK
“Is Chinese food racist?” — softball question — CHECK
We have seen this play before. In fact, with Fox news we have seen this play just about every day. But for some reason the right wing is just aflame with this racist “gotcha” moment that Trump pwned the media with. The stock market losing 10k in a month and thousands dying are boring topics. Let’s go with racism for $200, Alex.
Bryan Tyler Cohen gives his take on it.

Fun fact” Chanel Rion was along helping Giuliani take “depositions” in the Ukraine over Biden something something Burisma something Clinton something scandal.
