I am really puzzled by anyone who cannot see any difference in a future between a second Trump term and a Biden presidency.
I keep reading diaries and comments on other social media platforms by Bernie supporters who say that they cannot see much of a difference between a second Trump term and Biden being president. They lament without the changes promised by Bernie that their life won’t be that much different under Biden.
I think the spread of this sort of thinking is dangerous and it doesn’t take into account the danger of a second Trump term to progressive ideals in the coming decades.
The most dangerous impact to our democracy is the federal courts. If you think that any of Bernie’s plans have a chance of ever being implemented in the next few decades then you really don’t want a federal judiciary majority filled with Trump lifetime appointments and a Supreme Court likely consisting of either 4 or 5 Trump appointed justices.
With such a federal bench, you can expect that even if Democrats eventually captured the House, the Senate and the White House in the future, any such progressive laws would be shot down and negated by the very conservative Trump federal court.
No problem you say, “just pack the courts!”. What you miss is that those same courts would rule against your attempts to pack them.
I urge anyone even thinking of sitting out this election or voting 3rd party to seriously take a moment and think about how your angry vote against Biden or your wishy washy support of him could end up blocking any and all future progressive laws.
